East Coast Miata Challenge

Born on the sunny coast of Southern California, the Miata Challenge series is quickly becoming the series of choice for Mazda Miatas of all generations running in head-to-head time trial competition. EMRA proudly presents this up-and-coming series on the shores of the Atlantic.

Using a unique points-based system, Miata Challenge cars are classed by their level of modification. Stock-like Miatas compete against eachother in the MC Street class. Cars with engine and supension mods on R compound tires run in MC Modified. And finally, turbocharged, supercharged, and V8 swapped monster machines fight for the win in the MC Unlimited class.

Miata Challenge is a great way for Miata enthusiasts to get a piece of the on-track action in the cars they love.

Classes & Car Prep

Miata Challenge cars are classed using a points system based on the type of modifications they have. Each type of modification is worth a certain number of points. Just match up your mods to the Miata Challenge points chart, and add it up to find out what class your car is in.

The three Miata Challenge Classes are:

Street (MCS)
For your 100% pure-stock Miatas to lightly-modified weekend warriors. Perfect for your daily driven ride with interior and street tires (treadwear 140 or higher).

Modified (MCM)
For track day cars with trick suspension, bolt on engine mods, and R compound tires. Spec Miatas and similar road race cars are all welcome in MC Mod.

Unlimited (MCU)
No holds barred comeptition amongst the most heavily modified Miatas out there. MC Unlimited is the class your 300+hp, slick shod, forced induction Miata can call home.

Competition Format

Just like other EMRA Time Trial classes, Miata Challenge competitors race against the clock in run groups separated by driver experience and driver / car capabilites. Every lap of the day is timed, and the fastest time in your class wins.

Timing is performed using AMB Transponders. You can either use your own or rent one for the weekend at Registration. Every lap of the day is timed to ensure that you have plenty of opportunities to set that one fast lap.

Do I need a special license?

All you need to compete is a standard EMRA Time Trial license. Don't worry if you don't have one. EMRA hosts a Time Trial School at every event, where we can help you get the license you need.

Time Trial licenses from other major sanctioning bodies may also be accepted. If you have a time trial license from an accredited sanctioning body, be sure to contact our Time Trial Chair with your prior experience.
